This is the documentation for the third mission of Operation: Fallen Sparrow, Mission Code Name: Shattered Grail. Note, none of the operational maps have been included as they were maps of the Athens Georgia Airsoft field. While the scenario itself could easily adapted to another field, the maps would be useless.
Scenario Set-up:
· Each team will have one HQOC to act as the command element for the team they are handling. (Ukraine HQOC will act as SDU Officer’s HQOC as well.)
Each HQOC will receive their own information sheet to assist them in playing the role of the team’s command element.
Each O.C. will of course need at least one radio to communicate with the team and the field O.C.s if necessary.
· Each team will have an FOC assigned to remain in the general vicinity of the team.
These O.C.s will be present to handle any on-the-spot judgment calls that need to be made and to deal with any observation of mission objectives that may be required for a particular mission.
Teams:
Glass Fox Units:
- The U.S. forces will have one medic for every five team members that they have.
- One player with a radio will be designated as the team RTO (Radio Telephone Operator).
Ukrainian Units:
- One player with a radio will be designated as the team RTO (Radio
Telephone Operator).
- The Ukraine forces will have one medic for every ten team members that
they have.
- Three players will be designated as the SDU officer (interrogator) and his
body guards.
- One player will be secretly designated as the KGB mole.
Placement:
Glass Fox Units: Glass fox will be walked to the small town as their starting point first.
Ukrainian Units: Ukrainian forces will be walked to the firebase as their starting point last.
SDU Interrogator and security force: SDU officer will start at the staging area.
Note: It would be good if the teams can be placed without being seen by the other team.
Scenario Play:
· The Ukraine team must secure the facility and the surrounding area.
Once the facility and surrounding area has been secured then the SDU officer will be sent to the facility to interrogate the scientist. If the scientist is successfully interrogated then the SDU officer calls into the headquarters to inform them of the situation. About 10 minutes later, HQ will call back informing the interrogator to terminate the scientist.
· The Glass Fox team must rescue the scientist and if possible, assassinate the SDU officer. They will also attempt to rendezvous with the KGB mole to extract him. The KGB mole may or may not assist the Glass Fox unit to accomplish their mission/s.
· The scenario will end when all of the Glass Fox members have been captured/killed or extracted from the area of operations.
Special Rules:
· The U.S. team will use medic rules with each soldier being able to be revived a maximum of two times. On the third hit the player is eliminated from the game.
· The Ukraine teams will also have medics but each soldier will only be able to be revived once before having to go to the re-spawn point and re-spawn during the re-spawn cycle.
· Re-spawns for the Ukraine forces will occur every 10 minutes after the start of the game.
· One FOC must be at the Ukraine spawn to time the re-spawns correctly. (This will simulate small squads of reinforcements being called into the area.) The re-spawn point for the Ukraine forces will be ____________.
· Glass Fox members/Resistance fighters captured by the Ukrainians must be taken to AO Mexico and be evacuated for interrogation.
· When Glass Fox members are captured and evacuated or are eliminated (killed) then they have the option of going back to the staging area and re-spawning into the game as resistance fighters. When re-spawning the resistance fighter may only have two hi-cap magazines worth of ammunition for their primary weapon, no radio equipment and they must also be wearing a noticeable piece of civilian clothing. This could be a hat, coat, blue jeans etc.
Resistance fighters have no medics and may not re-spawn again. When a resistance fighter is captured or killed then they are eliminated from that scenario.
· Interrogation of the scientist will be over-seen by the Ukraine team’s F.O.C.
Scoring:
Ukraine:
-Capturing Glass Fox/Freedom fighter member – 5 points

Operation: Fallen Sparrow
FRAGO: 04-001-003
Mission Code Name: Shattered Grail
Situation:
Dr. Vladimir Grovsk has been apprehended by the Ukrainian military forces and is being taken to a remote facility to be questioned by an SDU interrogator. Dr. Grovsk is very important to this operation as a whole and needs to be extracted as soon as possible. There is also a KGB sleeper agent in the area that may be able to assist you in your mission.
Mission:
Locate, secure and extract the doctor, if possible, eliminate the SDU interrogator, rendezvous with the KGB agent and extract him as well.
Execution:
Dr. Grovsk has much information on the local resistance forces and other information that is vital to this operation’s success. We cannot afford to let him be eliminated and really cannot afford for him to be successfully interrogated. Locate and secure the doctor as quickly as possible so as to avoid his successful interrogation. Do not initialize contact with the KGB agent, as it may pre-maturely blow his cover, allow him to contact you. If able, eliminate the SDU interrogator before he can extract any information from the doctor.

Situation:
You are a KGB agent that had infiltrated the Ukrainian military some years ago, right after the fall of the Soviet Union. When the Ukrainian coup occurred, it was determined that you would remain in your cover and continue to provide information on the internal workings of the new regime’s forces and continue collecting intelligence.
You have been working with a disgruntled nuclear scientist by the name of Dr. Vladimir Grovsk. Though you have not met him in person, he does pass you information via telephone and drop point. He knows you only as “Guardrail”.
As of late, the SBU (Ukrainian Secret Service) has begun a purge within the military forces to identify those that may not be totally loyal to the new regime.
You have voiced your concerns to your KGB controllers and have received your answer.
Now, Dr. Grovsk has been arrested and is being moved to a facility in your military unit’s area of responsibility to be interrogated by the SDU in his suspected involvement with the resistance movement in the country.
There will be a Special Forces team sent in to rescue Dr. Grovsk. They will be expecting you as well.
Mission:
Make contact with the special operations unit at your discretion. Assist the unit in the accomplishment of their objectives. Extract with the team, as your cover will more than likely be blown during this operation.
Execution:
You may make contact with the special operations team at your discretion but it is requested that you provide as much assistance as possible to the team to successfully attain their objectives. They are to rescue the doctor, eliminate the SDU interrogator and link up with you before heading to their extraction. Be advised, you are not their priority mission so take your actions accordingly. Also be advised, this special forces team is a NATO multi-national force so do not be surprised to find foreign nationals amongst your rescuers.

You are nuclear physicist Doctor Vladimir Grovsk. For the past year and a half or so you have been forced to develop a new core for a nuclear weapon that the new communist regime has had designed. You were doing research on new types of fissionable material for peaceful purposes but like many scientists, your research and ideals have been perverted and abused by the militant communist regime that currently holds power in the Ukraine. Now you have been forced to have a heavy hand in the creation of a nuclear first-strike weapon and are incredibly bitter over the situation.
Situation:
Fed up with the new regime twisting your research and forcing you to create weapons of mass destruction, you eventually found yourself passing information to an intelligence agent of some sort that you have never met face-to-face and know only as “Guardrail”. Since you are still around and have been doing this for about six months it seems that he must work for powers outside of the Ukraine that may be able to help you out of your plight. You really have no family or ties to speak of so the only thing you really have to lose is your own life. Most recently you have been involved in passing the information on the Dark Sparrow missile to Guardrail. You have also sabotaged the missile so that it will be ejected from it’s carrying rack and drop to the ground during it’s transport to it’s testing grounds. Unfortunately, you have not heard from Guardrail in several weeks and you fear that he may have been compromised and in return has compromised you since you have now been placed under arrest and are being transported somewhere by a military unit to have god-only-knows-what done to you.
Mission:
If they interrogate you, you must resist as much as you can for as long as you can.
Execution:
You will choose a number between one and twenty. Every five minutes that you are “interrogated” your interrogator will call out one or more numbers depending on the situation. If it is not the number that you have chosen you will reply with “no information” if it is the number that you have chosen then the interrogator has “broken” you and you will tell him “broken”. This means that you have been successfully interrogated.
No specialized information required for this mission.

Situation:
You are an SDU (Ukraine Secret Service) officer that has been dispatched to a remote facility to interrogate Dr. Vladimir Grovsk, a nuclear physicist that is believed to be engaging in espionage and supporting the rebel cause with information.
Mission:
Interrogate the doctor to discover if he is indeed conducting espionage against the government and support the rebel forces in any way.
Execution:
You and your security force will be dispatched to the remote facility once confirmation that the doctor has been delivered and the area has been secured is received. Code Words:
Chernobyl: Prisoner successfully interrogated. Standing by for further instruction.
Simferopol: Arrived at secure facility and will begin interrogation of prisoner.
Notes on Interrogation techniques:
Each five-minute period is known as a turn.
How to interrogate:
You must be within close proximity to the prisoner and engaged in no other activities. At the end of every turn you may guess a number between 1 and 20. The prisoner will then either tell you “no information” or “broken” if he says broken then you have successfully interrogated him and have found that he has been engaged in espionage activities.
Use of torture/beating:
You must simulate the beating/torture of the prisoner and at the end of the turn in which you have done this you will be allowed two guesses for the correct number. Remember, beating a prisoner too long or too often can lead to the death of the prisoner.
Use of drugs:
You may simulate administering drugs to the prisoner. On the fourth turn after administering the drugs you will be allowed to guess three numbers for each turn for a total of three turns. The drug will then wear off. Remember using too much of the drugs or using the drugs too often can be dangerous for the prisoner.
Using drugs and beating/torture at the same time can also be a very effective interrogation technique but is extremely dangerous for the subject.
As the F.O.C. for the Ukraine team, you will more than likely have to over-see the interrogation process of the scientist.
Here is a run down of the interrogation process. The interrogator has his own interrogation information.
Interrogation Rules
Interrogations should normally be over-seen by an F.O.C.
When the interrogation begins the person being interrogated (prisoner) will typically choose a number between 1 and 20. If the prisoner is supposed to be tougher than the typical person or the interrogation is to last a long time then the number range may be larger. The interrogator will be told the number range but not the number itself.
At the end of each turn of normal interrogation, the interrogator is allowed to guess a number. If the incorrect number is guessed then the prisoner may respond with "not talking" or "no information" or something similar. If the correct number is guessed then the prisoner will respond with "broken" indicating a successful interrogation. If the incorrect number is guessed then the interrogation may continue.
Physically Aggressive Interrogation
Physically aggressive interrogation covers things such as torture, beating, etc. The physically aggressive interrogation must be simulated and after a turn of this the interrogator may guess two numbers and for each consecutive turn of this style of interrogation. Using a sock to beat the prisoner is a good simulation as is making the motions of slapping the prisoner around but not making physical contact is good. Use your imagination but be safe first and foremost!
The prisoner may be interrogated in this fashion for three consecutive turns safely. After this the prisoner will need to rest for as many turns as they were interrogated in this fashion. The prisoner may be interrogated normally during the rest period.
If the complete rest period is not given before physically aggressive interrogation begins again or if a fourth consecutive turn of this type of interrogation is used then the F.O.C. will flip a coin. If the result is heads then the interrogator may again guess two numbers. If it is tails then the prisoner has been tortured/beaten to death.
Chemical Interrogation
An interrogator may administer drugs to the prisoner to get them to talk easier. This too must be simulated. We use a large oral medication syringe (no needle) to represent a normal syringe and just place it against the prisoners arm to "inject" them with the drug. Once the drug is administered the interrogator must wait 3 turns for the drugs to take effect. He may interrogate the prisoner normally during this period. At the end of the fourth, fifth and sixth turns after the drug is administered the interrogator may guess three numbers each turn. The drug then wears off.
After the drug wears off of the prisoner they should not be injected again for at least 6 turns. If the prisoner is again injected before 6 turns of rest have passed then the F.O.C. will flip a coin for each turn that the prisoner has the drugs in his system. Heads, the prisoner is alive and the interrogator may again guess 3 numbers, tails, the prisoner has died of a drug over-dose.
Note: If an interrogator decided to combine physically aggressive interrogation and chemical interrogation together, the F.O.C. would flip a coin for each turn that this occurred in. Heads, the prisoner is alive and the interrogator may again guess 4 numbers, tails, the prisoner has died from the collective trauma of the interrogation.
